Further to the previous notice issued by the FIAU on the 24th April 2020 related to the registration on the new STR Submission system (goAML), the FIAU understands that the current situation related to COVID-19 is effecting the ability of a number of subject persons to respond in a timely manner and is therefore extending the deadline to Wednesday 13th May 2020.

The Minister responsible for public health, with the concurrence of and in consultation with the Minister for Finance and Financial Services, issued the Moratorium on Credit Facilities Regulations in Exceptional Circumstances through Legal Notice 142 of 2020. Credit and financial institutions licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority have been directed by these Regulations to offer a six-month moratorium on repayments on capital and interest for borrowers who have been negatively affected by COVID-19.

Following the advice of national health authorities for persons to remain indoors as much as possible, the Central Bank of Malta has today issued a Directive on important measures concerning cheques which will primarily enable persons to avoid visiting bank branches and other financial service providers, by depositing them through trusted third parties.

The Malta Business Registry announces that if a company is effected by the COVID-19 situation, and the filing of the annual return and/or financial statements falls within the period of 23 March 2020 and 31 May.2020, the relevant penalties on late filings of annual return and financial statements are not going to be imposed if these are filed with the Registrar by 31 July 2020.

The MBR would like to bring to your attention that amendments to the Merchant Shipping (Shipping Organisations – Private Companies) Regulations (S.L. 234.42) were published in the Government Gazette No. 20,351 on the 21st February 2020, by means of Legal Notice 31 of 2020.
