Registration for IFSP Conference now open
Registrations are now open for the 2017 IFSP conference, titled Our Industry: Opportunities, Challenges and Expectations. What is more, registrations received on or before 9 January 2017, will benefit from lower, early bird rates.
The conference will be held on Thursday, 26 January 2017 at the Xara Lodge, the venue for last year’s successful event. This year, the programme will once again deal with many of the issues that have a direct impact on how practitioners carry out their business.
While the programme is not as yet finalized, a list of the sessions being planned should give an appetizing taste of what is to be expected of the conference. There shall be sessions on the EU transparency package, including CRS, CbCR and FATCA; on ATAD, BEPS, CCCTB and the perils of aggressive tax planning. Finally, a session dealing with the way forward for Malta in the current international political climate should rounding off the tax-oriented section of the programme.
Tax is not, of course, all that will be discussed. The morning sessions include one on what Brexit means for Malta, and a second dealing with the possible impact Malta’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union will have on the financial services industry. There will also be a demonstration of the new capabilities available to members through the IFSP website.
The remainder of the conference will be taken up with a presentation on the IFSP Code of Ethics and its much-needed revision, and another by MFSA Director General Maryanne Scicluna about the MFSA. We do not, as yet, have any information on what she will be telling us.
Sessions on how the financial services industry is changing will follow, dealing with the impact technology is having on the way practitioners can render a service to their clients on the one hand, but also looking at the ever-changing relationship between the banking industry and financial services practitioners. Both these sessions promise to be of great interest.
A final session on capital markets and alternative sources of finance will round off the list of financial services topics covered during the 2017 conference.
This year, however, the IFSP is holding a networking reception after the conference closes at 17:30, to give members and other practitioners more time to discuss the issues raised. The reception is being organized with the sponsorship of the Malta Stock Exchange.
